ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis), also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease, is a progressive neurological disease that affects the motor neurons in the brain and spinal cord. These neurons control muscle movement, and as they deteriorate, the brain loses its ability to send signals to the muscles, leading to progressive weakness and mobility challenges.

Common Problems

Muscle weakness – Usually starting in the hands, arms, legs, or speech muscles.
Difficulty walking – Increased risk of falls due to muscle atrophy.
Muscle cramps & twitching – Particularly in the hands and feet.
Speech & swallowing difficulties – Trouble speaking clearly or swallowing food/liquids.
Breathing difficulties – As the disease progresses, respiratory muscles weaken.
Loss of fine motor skills – Difficulty with tasks like buttoning a shirt or holding objects
